Luna Estate Eclipse Pinot Noir 2019

The Eclipse vineyard is situated on the gravels of the Martinborough Terrace, planted between 1993 and 2005.  In contrast to the Blue Rock, Eclipse Pinots tend to be more structurally pronounced and dark hearted.

Fermented wild, 15% whole bunch, 20-30 days maceration before pressing, one year in French oak puncheons, 20% new.  Unfined, unfiltered, no adds except minimal sulphur.

“Cherry and plum, baking spice, coffee grounds and clay, and lively dried herb and green capsicum top note. It’s plush, a bit savoury, quite a fleshy feel in the mouth, rich cocoa tannin, a subtle dried orange peel bitterness, and crushed rock kind of thing happening on the finish. I like that it doesn’t feel too forced, nor trying too hard.  Nice expression of vineyard here. A charmer.”
